The Quiet Moments We Feel The Spirit #16

The Quiet Moments We Feel The Spirit

I want to spend a few moments telling you my experience this Sabbath day. As I was coming to the end of a short film I was watching, my wife came and tapped me on the shoulder, I was wearing headphones and wouldn't hear her if she had just said something. I stopped the short film, removed my headphones, then she asked, “are you ok, I thought you were crying, and you are, what’s wrong”? I found at that moment it was hard for me to speak a word as if I said one word, I would collapse into full blown tears. As I tried to pull my emotions together, I showed my wife what I had been watching. In an instant she understood what was going on.

I was watching a short film or documentary as it were about the life Thomas S. Monson. Thomas S. Monson was the President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints until his passing in January of 2018. The love I had for the soft-spoken man, leader of our church, I just can’t explain here.

But what I do want to tell you is about where my tears came from. When my wife tapped me on the shoulder and I realized I was crying, I knew my tears were coming from the Spirit of the Lord. I didn’t care that I was crying, my heart was filled with the love for Thomas S. Monson, a servant of the Lord and the Holy Spirit was confirming this to me.

After having the sweet feelings/promptings of the Spirit how can one ever stop seeking to be obedient to our Heavenly Father and His son Jesus Christ.

Don’t let the situations of this world change your focus on what’s important. #15

As I was scrolling through Facebook, I ran across a video of a man talking about the world in which we are living in today. As he was talking and giving scriptural references to what he was talking about I felt moved to look up these scriptural references for myself and mark them in my scriptures. Even though I’ve read them before I wanted to highlight them and spend more time thinking and praying that I may become better at applying them in my life.

Isn’t it great that as we read and reread the scriptures, we sometimes don’t see the wisdom of what we’re being told? But then when we’re ready and open to learning we are given a gift or as I like to call it “finding a golden nugget of wisdom”.

The man in the video was talking about how “we” as brothers and sisters are treating each other with all that’s happening in the world. As we talk about the problems in politics or with all the discussions dealing with discrimination it tends to bring out some form of emotion in everyone, whether it be sadness, guilt, anger, or fear. The point he was making was, these are earthly matters that we’re spending time getting so emotional about and not where we should be spending our time and energy. We’re taught by the Saviors example to treat everyone as brothers and sisters and give a helping hand when needed. To love ALL our brothers and sisters NOT tear them down.

To me these scriptures are teaching us not to let the things of this world control our emotions or occupy our time. Our time should be spent on more heavenly things such as, charity, services, and trying to be more like our Savior. The situations that today we’re seeing all around the world are tools of the adversary. He’s trying to keep our eyes focused on things of this world and not where they truly need to be.

·        Don’t let the situations of this world change your focus on what’s important. Try to see the bigger picture.

Luke 24: 13-26

13 ¶ And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs.

14 And they talked together of all these things which had happened.

15 And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.

16 But their eyes were holden that they should not know him.

17 And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad?

18 And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days?

19 And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:

20 And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him.

21 But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done.

22 Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre;

23 And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive.

24 And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not.

25 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:

26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?
